Jasmin Davis

Soon to be Our New Daughter

Jasmin when first brought to the orphanage

My Name is Jasmin Davis

At the Maoming Institute they named me Mao Zhong Da, a little girl born around Jan.24, 2009.  I was left at the Maoming Social Welfare Institute on Feb.07, 2009. The police  searched  but couldn't find my relatives. I was taken to the institute on Feb.18, 2009 by the Guandu Police sub-station and that is where I am now.

My last name “Mao” means Maoming city, “Zhong” the first name means China, which is the first name of all children taken into the Social Welfare Institute in 2009; “Da” the middle name means they hope I become a beautiful girl.

At the institute they estimated my birthday based on my development status when I was sent into the Social Welfare Institute and after the doctor checked me out. I received a clean bill of health and was diagnosed as a normal newborn. As of my last update I've been in the Social Welfare Institute for three months and am four months old.  I was sent into the “Grandmother Project” after I was one month old and hence received the “response style care”.   The nanny would often hold me , talk to me or take me outside for sunshine. Now my physical and motion development are the same as other children of the same age. I could smile at people when I was two months old, I could make the voice of “ee” when adults talked to me.  Now I can hold up my head when laying on my belly and I can also support my body with my arms. My eyes track to observe things happening around me.  I can change my postion from lying on my side to lying on my back.  When I sit up when backed by something, my head and spine are straight. I can hold a rattle in both hands. I can respond by making the noise of “ee” when you talk to me. I smile at the sight of familiar people. I like watching other children playing. I'm very active, and enjoy being held by the nanny.  The nannies all like me very much and I have brought joy to the Social Welfare Institute.  I have a very routine schedule. I wake up at 6:30 and go to bed at 9:00 p.m. I  occasionally take naps and sleep for approximately 16 hours a day. I have a good  appetite and drink about 170ml of the mixture of formula and rice cereal. I can fall asleep alone by myself and I am a good sleeper. Since I was admitted into the Social Welfare Institute, I have been healthy most of the time and only had a couple of colds and diarrhea. I had to get vaccinated according to the rules (ick!).
